Determination of wood impregnant potential, effects on absorption, retention and density in wooden of Kütahya–Simav geothermal waters
Abstract
Kutahya is one of the richest provinces of Turkey in terms of geothermal waters. There are 11 geothermal fields above 30°C in Kutahya. One of these areas is Simav region. Simav's geothermals are rich in terms of chemical salts or minerals. The aim of the study is to investigate determination of wood impregnant potentials, and effects on absorption, retention and density of wood of Simav geothermals. In the study, Eynal, Çitgöl and Naşa geothermals, sapwoods of Crimean pine (Pinus nigra Arnold.) and Turkish red pine (Pinus brutia Ten.) and dipping method were used. After all, for Simav's geothermals, the concentration of wood impregnants were found between 748.61 mg/lt – 1244.01 mg/lt. Absorption, retention and density of geothermal-impregnated wood increased depending on the concentration of geothermal. Statistically, geothermal type on absorption and retention, and tree species on density affected signifcantly at highly level. For three properties, while maximum values were found in treatment with Eynal for Turkish red pine, minimum values were obtained with Naşa for Crimean pine.
