International standards for interior design and furniture in physical rehabilitation centers for the elderly
Abstract
Rehabilitation centers in Egypt suffer from a failure to provide functional requirements in terms of ergonomic and anthropometric standards that suit the comfort of the elderly patient with limited mobility or who is unable to move. From here stemmed the research problem: which is the existence of deficiencies in the application of ergonomic and anthropometric functional standards for each of the interior design and furniture in rehabilitation centers, in a way that does not suit most of the needs of elderly patients with mobility impairment or inability to move. The research aims to present the international ergonomic and anthropometric standards for each of the interior design and furniture in the physical rehabilitation centers for the elderly. The importance of the research lies in the fact that it provides standards that must be followed as solutions for the interior design and furniture of the motor rehabilitation centers for those with weakness or inability to move. satisfactory quality and time. Research Methods: The research follows the descriptive analytical approach. The limitations of the research are limited to international ergonomic and anthropometric standards and physical rehabilitation centers for the elderly. Research results: There are important standards that must be taken into account in rehabilitation centers to suit people with wheelchairs and people with crutches, especially in dry and wet treatment areas, residence rooms, bathrooms, corridors of all kinds, and slopes. Research recommendations: The need for the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Housing to apply international standards in interior design and furniture, governmental and private physical rehabilitation centers, as well as the competent authorities related to that.
