This article identified the repertoires of confrontation, which from the communication and the traditional and / or alternative media, have been the object of study in the investigations on the environmental social movements (MSA) in Colombia, Argentina, Ecuador and Bolivia between 2000-2017. It is a qualitative, documentary research that uses the bibliographic approach. For her, the theoretical and methodological frameworks were identified, and the topics addressed, especially those related to Social Communication as a field of study or discipline. It could be determined that, although there is a corpus related to MSAs in Latin America, especially for Mexico and Brazil, the studies are approached from the other Social and Human Sciences; the communicative or the media is played tangentially. It was determined that in the face of the irruption and positioning of environmental social movements in the continent, inspired not only by the protection of Mother Earth or the territories laden with senses and cosmogony, but by the imminent climate change, added to the positioning of thinking bets like Buen Vivir, it is imperative for Latin American communication schools to open up to new questions about the communicative practices, tactics and / or strategies inserted in the confrontation repertoires of the MSAs.
