The effect of the source and level of supplementation with selenium on its concentration and shelf life of eggs of chickens of commercial position was evaluated. 672 38-week-old hens were used, distributed in a completely randomized experimental design in four treatments: T0 (diet + 0.4 mg Se.kg-1 with sodium selenite), T1 (diet + 0.2 mg Se.kg-1 with 2-hydroxy 4- methylselenobutanoic acid), T2 (diet + 0.3 mg Se.kg-1 with yeast enriched with selenium) and T3 (diet + 0.3 mg Se.kg-1 with acid 2-hydroxy 4-methylselenobutanoic). Significant differences (p > 0.05) between treatments were obtained for egg weight, feed intake, feed conversion, shelf life at a temperature of 24 °C and 4 °C, lipid peroxidation and selenium concentration in the egg at 14 and 56 days. It is concluded that the source of organic selenium 2-hydroxy 4-methylselenobutanoic acid contributed to reducing lipid oxidation, maintaining quality and increasing the concentration of the mineral in the egg. In addition, economic efficiency of S/ 0.013 and 0.024 was obtained for the source of organic selenium 2-hydroxy 4- methylselenobutanoic acid in treatments T1 and T3 relative to the control respectively.
