Correct or incorrect use of inhalers in patients with dyspnea
Abstract
Introduction: In patients with dyspnea inhalers are important drugs which are used in them. The aim of this study was evaluation the method of use of inhalers in patients considering the demographic factors such as age, sex and educational levels. Methods: This study is a Double blind observational study, Which is conducted during 2009 – 2011. The patients were selected on simple sampling manner from the patients who attended to the clinics (peymanieh and Motahari) and patients who had been admitted in internal medicine ward in peymanieh hospital in Jahrom (Iran). After obtaining informed consent at the first step a demographic questionnaire filled by one of the researchers. After that in second step the second researcher observed the manner of inhaler use by the patient and he recorded the right or wrong manner of the spray using manner. All the information analyzed by SPSS soft ware. Results: In this study 468 patients were studied. 43.6% of the patients were using inhalers in correct manner. Form these 204 patients (who used sprays in correct manner) 95.1% have had education about the use of inhaler. Men and the patients with older ages were more in the groups with incorrect manner. It seems that educational level has not any role in the manner of inhaler use. Conclusion: Physicians and other persons with therapeutic duties should dedicate more time for training the patients in using the inhalers.
