The establishment of a municipal slaughterhouse in Ponta Grossa, Parana State, occurred closely with the reordering of the urban environment in the late XIXth Century. As modernity and progress speeches spent to take part of the agenda, it became imperative to rethink and discipline animals slaughter practices that aimed to provide meat to the city's population. Through the analysis and crisscross of postures code snippets, minutes of the city council , old plants of the city and contemporary research services and satellite images, we seek to pinpoint the possible location of the first Ponta Grossa’s municipal slaughterhouse and analyze how it was its structure and operation. The paper aims to contribute to a greater understanding of the historicity of animals slaughter practices for human consumption demonstrating the link between the history of slaughterhouses and urban environmental history.
