This work aims to reflect on some of the current features of social policies in Argentina, which – as suggested in the title – are setting new trends in the social security system of the country, which retain elements that characterized it since its consolidation in the 1940s, recovering the centrality of the state as a provider of goods and services, and as a guarantor of rights. Since these features can only be understood in light of the changes made in the recent past, the introduction and the first section are dedicated to providing a brief description and analysis of the neoliberal social policies that were implemented in the country in the 1990s, as well as the changes in the recommendations of multilateral development agencies, which have been nourishing these policies normatively. The final section offers a description of the new policies of Social Provision and family allowances, which play a central role in this new configuration. Finally, the conclusion provides some conjectures about the meaning of these new trends for the system of social protection in Argentina
