Report on the helicopter operation in western Enderby Land, 1998–99 (JARE-40)
Abstract
The 40th Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition (JARE-40) installed two helicopters to support field survey in the western Enderby Land, East Antarctica. Geological and geomorphological teams established base camps at Tonagh Island and Mt. Riiser-Larsen, respectively, and tried to conduct regional field surveys in the area. Unfortunately, planned surveys have not been completed due to a heavy wind condition which damaged one of the helicopters. This report gives planning, preparation and results on the helicopter operation.
