Celebration of 125th anniversary of birth of Taras Shevchenko by Academy of Sciences of Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic
Abstract
The article is devoted to the historical reconstruction of the commemoration of the 125th anniversary of the birth of Taras Shevchenko in March 1939 at the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic and the coverage of the course of this anniversary. The research methodology consists in the application of scientific methods of historical, source studies, chronological, as well as concrete search and heuristic (analysis and systematization of sources and literature). The methodological basis of the research is based on the principlesof objectivity, historicism, systematicity, and complexity, which in their totality allow to revealthe problem. The scientific novelty of the work consists in the inclusion in the analysis of little-researched archival sources from the history of Shevchenko studies at the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic and publications in the press of this period, the scientific data of which allow the reconstruction of the directions of preparation for the anniversary, the forms of participation in it by academic institutions and individual scientists of Ukraine; introduction of new information of archival documents into scientific circulation. Conclusions. The information of the documents of the Central State Archive of Public Organizations of Ukraine and Central State Archives of Supreme Bodies of Power and Government of Ukraine (resolutions of the decision-making bodies on the commemoration of the anniversary of Taras Shevchenko), source resources of the Archive of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (internal academic resolutions, orders, transcripts, reporting documents) and scientific materials in a comprehensive coverage, involved in the analysis, represents the course of preparations for the anniversary events held by the Academy in 1938-1939. On the basis of documents of various types and relevant materials, it was es tablished that in 1938-1939, scientists of the Academy of Sciences carried out significant work on the study and publication of Taras Shevchenko’s literary heritage. Information is presented on the scientific directions of the works published before the anniversary, the scientific and organizational participation of the Academy of Sciences both in events, anniversary sessions, exhibitions, creative evenings that took place within its walls, and in national onesthat were held with the involvement of scientists, writers and representatives of the public from various republics of the USSR and became an act of commemoration of Taras Shevchenko, popularization of his work. Preparations for the celebration of Taras Shevchenko’s anni versary at the end of the 1930s had a significant impact on accelerating the development of Shevchenko’s studies as one of the leading directions of academic research.
