Bullying in the conception of middle school students in a public school

Aim: to identify the conception of middle school students concerning bullying. Methods: it is an action-research, with exploratory descriptive and qualitative approach. It was conducted with 13 6th graders of middle school of a public school at the state of Ceará, in 2013, in which was utilized the participative observation and structured interview to collect information. The ethical principles were respected and it was approved by the Ethics Committee in research. Results: students related bullying to aggression and intimidating attitudes held in the school, unaware of the characters and types of this phenomenon, and most of them had suffered verbal abuse. Since the dimension of this phenomenon is a concerns, it is necessary to incorporate professionals of the health sector to work in the school environment. Conclusion: although the individuals had a background knowledge about bullying, this knowledge was not well contextualized in daily scholar experiences
