Objective The video surveillance system of Shanghai urban rail transit faces challenges such as insufficient flexibility, poor scalability, and complex operation and maintenance. In response, a new network architecture for video surveillance system based on SDN (software defined networking) and NFV (network function virtualization) technologies is proposed. Method Through analyzing in-depth the shortcomings of conventional network architecture, the working principles, characteristics, and advantages of SDN and NFV technologies, a new network architecture for video surveillance systems based on SDN and NFV technologies is elaborated. Experiments under laboratory conditions are conducted to test the performance of this architecture. Result & Conclusion The proposed network architecture achieves the separation of control layer and data forwarding functions, realizing the virtualization of network functions. This not only optimizes resource allocation and enhances urban rail transit video surveillance system scalability and manageability, but also provides flexible hardware configuration and upgrade capabilities. Experimental results indicate that the above-mentioned architecture performs excellently under multiple video streams and high network load conditions, contributing to improved reliability, security, and real-time performance of urban rail transit video surveillance systems.
