The environmental awareness on a global scale is one of the most characteristic phenomena of the 1960s. The "ecological era" which begins in this period is driven by the idea according to which the cross-border character of ecological threats requires that the related questions arise in global terms. It is marked by the holding of the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment (UNCHE), Stockholm (1972). The operationalization of this awareness did not happen excluding Africa; the proof is that, several African delegations took part in this historic meeting. Adopting the historical approach and standing on a variety of sources (bibliographical, archival and electronic), this article analyzes the balancesheet of Africa’s participation in the Stockholm conference (1972). The results obtained show that the UNCHS marked a major turning point in the adherence of African countries to green diplomacy.
