Voyage À l’Étranger chez soi
Abstract
This paper addresses the simultaneously lucid and critical perspective with which the Moroccan writer living in the Netherlands, Fouad Laroui, sees his native country from Europe. In fact, the short stories and the narrative fiction of this Francophone writer have the merit of casting a calm and comforting glance on our binary cultural differences, which they subsume by a narrative strategy that summons both humour and deep reflection, or still a practice of, and a call to tolerance. In doing so, they translate a trip to/from the stranger from the Maghreb reality and vice versa, which we will try to illustrate from a critical and thematic reading of Une année chez les Français and L’Oued et le consul et autres nouvelles.
