Our article focuses on the analysis of the triumphant images of Charles V in the Spanish Golden Age theatre, having at its very core two key words, authority and power. Throughout the study of several plays that build up our corpus, we can identify the main sources of inspiration for the imperial image of the Habsburgs in the 16th century: the Greco-Roman world, with constant allusions to Ares/Mars, the anti-Ottoman crusade, the importance of the faith.
