Squares as public spaces constituted throughout history important urban references of human coexistence. These spaces perform several functions, among them aesthetic, environmental, symbolic, and social. This survey aimed to analyze squares of the small city Mamborê in south Brazil, using the categories of spatial analysis proposed by Milton Santos: structure, function, and form. The methodology was based on qualitative and quantitative research, followed by a survey applied to users of the square. The results indicate that accessibility is fundamental to the squares appropriation, therefore, arrangement and maintenance are essential governmental responsibilities to become public spaces more inviting, promoting access and collective use.
