The article examines the peculiarities of group dynamics in an IT project team. The summary is summarized and the proper concept of group dynamics is formulated. Group dynamics is a set of processes and phenomena that occur in a small group, in particular such as: decision-making, solving problems and situations, conflict management, communications, motivation and other processes that characterize the entire life cycle of the group, and its stages: formation, functioning , development, stagnation, regression, decay. These processes and phenomena occur in the group at any moment of time and mark the movement of the group from stage to stage, that is, its development. The purpose of the article is to analyze and consider the main stages of group dynamics in an IT project team. To achieve the goal, the article analyzes the main stages of group dynamics in an IT project using the example of a team creating the outsourced Filmy video editor application for iOS. An example of the mission, aim, goals and tasks for the group is given and the composition of the Filmy project team is determined, the factors influencing its formation are analyzed: rates, project terms, technologies and scope of work. Goal setting as an approach to team formation was defined and its main stages were analyzed for the studied example. Each stage has its own characteristics, which in its turn determine the processes of leadership, motivation and communication. The transformation of a group into a high-performance team occurs when: all its members consider the achieved success as joint; trust in each other and in the manager is constantly growing; the sense of belonging to the team is cultivated and strengthened; belonging to a team is considered a prestigious status; team goals are constantly being implemented. In other cases, the group or team is destroyed (disbanded). Knowledge of group dynamics can help project managers better understand the behavior of their teams and ensure successful project execution, decision-making, creation of effective methods in connection with the emergence and spread of new ideas and technologies, thereby ensuring the development of high productivity in the team. It is important to clearly define the goals of the project, the type of tasks that the team will work on and the appropriate project development technologies, to correctly choose the methods and ways of motivating and evaluating the team, as well as its individual employees.
