Simulation modelling has proved to be one of the most powerful tools available to the Operations Research Analyst. The development of micro-computer technology has reached a state of maturity where the micro-computer can provide the necessary computing power and consequently various powerful and inexpensive simulation languages for micro-computers have became available. This paper will attempt to provide an introduction to the general philosophy and characteristics of some of the available micro-computer simulation languages. The emphasis will be on the characteristics of the specific micro-computer implementation rather than on a comparison of the modelling features of the various languages. Such comparisons may be found elsewhere.
