De la esterilidad fecunda al parto perruno: reproducción y desvío en las Novelas ejemplares de Cervantes
Abstract
This paper examines the structure of Cervantes’ Exemplary Novels focusing on a network of metaphors that stem from the Prologue and that connect the first and last novels in the book. This net links metaphors of conception, worth, and metamorphosis in a path that contrasts the aforesaid novels and their protagonists, Preciosa and Doña Estefanía/Cañizares. With that itinerary, Cervantes reflects on the nature of fiction: how it’s born, what elements form it, how it affects writers and readers, and what is its status regarding truth and lies.
