Acinetobacter Infections in the Intensive Care Unit

Abstract

Acinetobacter infection in the intensive care unit is a major problem in Thailand and in the world due to their ability to develop resistance to multiple classes of broad-spectrum antibiotics including carbapenems. Acinetobacter can infect virtually any body site, but particularly the lower respiratory tract, the bloodstream, and the urinary tract. Due to limited therapeutic options, prevention and infection control measures combined with good rationale use of antibiotics based on antimicrobial susceptibility are essential.
