National Identity – Priority of the Educational Process in Contemporary Society

Abstract

Inherent in human beings, national identity is a historical matter, not a negotiated one, or a privilege offered by an organisation, with political power. The main elements that characterise and define a people like: the language, social costumes, with simbolistic and specific traditions, economic tranzactions, or the religion, are useful in the process of expressing its identity. We express national identity through common attitudes, mentalities and the thoughts of individuals, that communicate belonging to one national state. In the same time, the national identity assumed by the individual reflects the patriotic feelings, the respect and love for the country and people.
