International technical standards have developed In order to evaluate the quality of information systems applied by organizations and seek their improvement. The purpose of this study is evaluate the quality characteristics of an information system in terms of its effectiveness, productivity, safety and satisfaction, using the technical standard ISO / IEC 9126-1: 2001; assessment methodology is based on operation using an information system, according to the methodology proposed by the technical standard ISO / IEC 9126-4: 2004. The academic information system (SAC) who developed the Universidad Santo Tomás - Sectional Tunja, in the context of the construction of its system of quality management under the ISO 9001: 2008 model, is taken as context for the assessment. The academic information system (SAC) plays an important role as the backbone of the academic – administration processes of the University. Conformity or SAC with software quality characteristics mentioned above and the relationship between assessment and the system of quality management are identified. The study stand out the contribution to the implementation of the principles of quality management, particularly with regard to customer focus, continuous improvement and making decisions based on facts.
