Created in the 1970s, The Comics Journal is a magazine of news and reviews of US comics. If at the beginning the magazine gives an important place to mainstream comic books, over time its focus shifted towards US independent productions. From the beginning, the magazine discussed some non-US comics but remained mainly centered on national production. In this article we study the place given to non-US comics in « News » and « Interviews » sections and its importance and treatment in relation to the place given to US comics. Our attention is focused on how comics from different cultural areas - European, Canadian, Japanese or South American - are more or less present in the pages of TCJ and how they are treated.
