Background. In all regions of the Russian Federation, in the structure of the incidence of the maxillofacial region, fractures of the lower jaw constitute a significant group characterized by progressive growth. In the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery of the Penza Regional Hospital named after N.N. Burdenko, the number of patients who applied for help with fractures of the lower jaw in 2018 increased by 22 % compared to 2017. A clear tendency towards an increase in morbidity necessitates the development of an effective and affordable drug for use as an oral hygiene product after the application of metal structures for splinting, in order to improve the quality of medical care for this pathology. Materials and methods. A study was conducted to assess the effectiveness and safety of the use of antiseptic solutions in patients with bimaxillary splinting with metal structures produced because of a fracture of the lower jaw. The following solutions were used as an antiseptic solution for irrigation of the oral cavity and removal of food residues (fats, proteins, carbohydrates): 0.1 % potassium permanganate solution, 0.05 % aqueous solution of Chlorhexidine, 3 % hydrogen peroxide solution, 0, 02 % Furatsilin. In the course of a comprehensive study aimed at identifying the individual characteristics of the patient, establishing a diagnosis, substantiating rational treatment, swabs were taken from the mucous membranes of the cheeks and throat, and a microbiological analysis was performed. Results. The obtained results of the use of antiseptic solutions led to the conclusion that these drugs are effective, but have a number of side effects and have low resistance to bacteria that cause inflammatory diseases of the oral mucosa (catarrhal stomatitis, gingivitis, periodontitis). Conclusions. The results obtained during the study led to the conclusion that, in the treatment of patients with fractures of the lower jaw, a safe, plant-based safe, therapeutic and prophylactic agent with a pronounced antimicrobial, antiinflammatory, disinfectant and analgesic should be used as an antiseptic solution for treating patients with fractures of the lower jaw action.
