In XX and XXI centuries in connection with the radical social changes researchers have at-tempted to analyze the current transformation and to show their influence on the political, economic, social and cultural development of the country. The most important institutions of culture, i.e. theater, has passed a long way of reforming. The goals and objectives have always reflected the needs of society, the level of cultural development, profound moral needs of different social groups, as well as state policy concerning culture. Modernization of Russian theater took place in difficult historical conditions. Historical retrospective allows us to consider the development of theatrical business in Russia at the turn of XX – XXI centuries, to identify the positive aspects and shortcomings in the work of theaters in the new reality, to identify trends in the further development. Of particular importance for the study of Russian theater period of radical change is the study of theatrical business in the south of the Far East. The border location of the region, the special composition of the population, remoteness from the center of the country determined its specific development. At present, despite the attention of the Russian government paid at the development of the Far East, the region remains being the area with the lack of the necessary infrastructure. The problem of human resources and staff turnover is much sharper than in the central regions of the Russian Federation. Therefore, the study and compilation of the historical experience gained by researchers of the Far East, is important.
