Farmers and Breeders of Bogota Plateau in Face of Climatic Changes in the 18th Century
Abstract
This research analyzes the adaptation of the farmers and breeders of Bogota plateau to confront droughts and floods that occurred during the 18th century. Based on qualitative information in official colonial documents, letters and notebooks of travelers, this research reconstructed the chronology of prolonged droughts and floods that caused damage to infrastructure, crops and herds. The results emphasize on the response of the farmers and ranchers, included land use according to microclimates of the region, informal construction of water infrastructure and food stocks.
