Impact of Digital Communication on Academic Performance and Social Interaction Among University Students: a Study at Laghouat University
Abstract
Abstract: Digital communication has become a pivotal aspect of higher education, profoundly affecting students' academic and social experiences. This study investigates the impact of digital communication tools on students at Laghouat University, focusing on their academic performance and social interactions. Utilizing a qualitative research approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews and focus groups involving 30 undergraduate students from various departments. The findings indicate that digital tools are extensively used for accessing educational resources, participating in online discussions, and collaborating on projects. While these tools offer significant benefits, including increased accessibility and enhanced academic engagement, they also present challenges such as distractions from social media and a reduction in face-to-face interactions. The study highlights the dual nature of digital communication, underscoring the need for strategies that balance the advantages of digital tools with the potential drawbacks. Future research should explore methods to optimize the use of digital communication in higher education, aiming to enhance its positive impacts while mitigating its negative effects.
