La chambre d’enfant dans la littérature de jeunesse : représentations et histoire d’une émergence en France de 1780 à 1880
Abstract
In the period before the Second Empire, from Arnaud Berquin to Eugénie Foa, the children's room began to get mentioned in children's literature, if rarely. During the Second Empire, the Comtesse de Ségur’s work gave rise to rich material about children's rooms in castles of good society, but not only that alone. Uses of the room, for play as well as for school work, were evoked. Other authors of this period even gave descriptions of bedrooms, which complete the image provided by the Comtesse de Ségur. Under the Third Republic, settings became more diversified, though we’ll only lightly touch on this period when descriptions became more numerous and longer, as children's room became a social reality, and architects, hygienists and educators began to concern themselves with it.
