Multiplanar external fixator for severe lisfranc fractures: A case report
Abstract
The role of multiplanar external fixation for severe Lisfranc and midfoot fractures with violated soft tissue is invaluable. In our experience, high velocity and crush injuries to the midfoot are commonly associated with lacerations, severe edema, and open fractures. Initial management for injuries that are not amenable to primary internal fixation are placed in a “box frame” external fixator until appropriate final fixation can be achieved. This articles provides a case report as well as a step by step approach to constructing the “box frame” for Lisfranc and midfoot fractures.
