Radical Perineal Prostatectomy

Abstract

Prostate cancer is the most common malignancy and the second leading cause of cancer death in men. Complete surgical removal of the prostate is the most commonly used treatment option for patients with localized prostate cancer. Surgical treatment of localized prostate cancer includes radical retropubic prostatectomy, radical perineal prostatectomy and robotic/ laparoscopic radical prostatectomy. Since lympadenectomy from the same incision is not possible in radical retropubic prostatectomy, this approach is less preferable. On the other hand, when radical perineal prostatectomy in well selected cases is compared with radical retropubic prostatectomy in terms of many operational or functional criteria, similar results were obtained. In this paper, we aimed to report our experiences with this uncommon surgical approach.
