Dynamics and Composition of Plankton in Superintensif Shrimp Ponds Litopenaeus vannamei

Plankton is a crucial component, which play a vital role in supporting the production of super-intensive shrimp systems with extremely high densities and high feeding frequencies. Within these systems, the dynamics and composition of plankton can be significantly impacted by changes in environmental conditions. Therefore, this research aimed to examine the plankton dynamics and water quality in super-intensive vannamei shrimp cultivation, leveraging different densities. Data collection was carried out through observations by filtering pond water at five points, with either 20 or 100 liters of water collected from each pond plot, and sampling was conducted every 5 days. The results showed that plots A and C each had 19 plankton genera, on the other hand, plot B comprised 16 plankton genera. Spearman correlation analysis was also performed, which indicated a significant influence (P>0.05) of phytoplankton on zooplankton abundance. This relationship was found to be strong, with a correlation value of 0.683. On the other hand, the concentrations of TAN, NO2, NO3, PO4, and TSS did not exhibit a significant influence (P>0.05) on the abundance of phytoplankton. It was also crucial to acknowledge that NO2 and NO3 were found to substantially impact (P<0.05) the abundance of zooplankton, and as a result, a dynamic fluctuation was observed in the abundance of plankton genera. This led to variations in the specific genera examined during each data collection.
