Electrochemical polymerization of 2,5-dimethoxyaniline on type 304 stainless steel
Abstract
Poly(2.5-dimethoxianiline)(PDMA) was electrodeposited on 304 steel electrodes under potential cycling conditions, using 0.1 M 2.5-dimethoxyaniline solutions in 1M phosphoric acid. Under these conditions, thin polymer films were obtained on the electrode surface. FTIR spectroscopy study shows that the structure of the obtained polymer is the same than that reported on Pt and glassy carbon. Film showed up electrochemical activity between -0.2 and 0.7 V vs Ag/AgC1 and a marked electrochromic effect. Linear polarization and open circuit experiments showed that poly(2.5-dimethoxyaniline) serves as a corrosion inhibitor of the 304 steel in HCI / NaC1 media.
