The aim of this study was to obtain an overview of the scientific literature on the topic of stakeholder management in project management, identifying the most representative studies, their approaches, authors and eminent journals. The methodological approach used was a systematic literature review, adopting the bibliometric analysis techniques and content analysis. Six hundred and fourteen papers were identified for bibliometric analysis and subsequently the 28 most relevant papers, according to the proxy higher average number of citations per year, which were analyzed in depth using content analysis techniques. The results indicated a growing production in the area, mainly in the construction sector. Whereas the result of the analysis of the most relevant works still features instrumental approach and the case study method in the majority of the studies. Finally, this study provided foundations for further research by classifying the most cited authors in the relevant papers into three groups: classic project management, applied project management and leadership and behavior.
