The modern library: from Cromwell to italian National libraries

Study texts transmission implies also to study the libraries that have preserved and allowed to read these texts. The birth of modern library has to be found in several key events of Modernity. Among them French Revolution had a main role: this shocking event gave birth to the idea of ‘National Library’, meant as library owned by and built for the citizens who constitute the Nation.
