Villancicos de jácara in a conventual environment

Abstract

Abstract: This article analyzes, from the huge productivity of the jácaras as hybrid genre, the villancicos-jácara found in the convent of Descalzas Reales, a corpus of eight pieces spanning from the 17th to the 18th centuries. In these villancicos jácara I underline also theatricality, on the one hand, and on the other the update, within the parameters of the genre jacaresco, for the context of the listeners of these pieces, cling to tradition as to the form, but ‘highly topical’ as to the content.Keywords: jácara’s typology, villancicos-jácara (productivity and update), 17th and 18th centuries, convent of Descalzas Reales.
