The development perspective of Vietnam retail market

Together with the development of the economy over the past two decades, Vietnam retail market has entered a rapid growth phase and become one attractive retail market in Asia. In the coming years, how will Vietnam retail market grow? The objective of this study is to analyze perspectives for the development of retail market in Vietnam up to 2020. Based on the Environmental theory and the Consumption theory, combined with analytical methods for growth forecasts of some economic indicators and private consumption expenditure to year 2020, three development perspectives of the retail market are built. In which, the average development perspective is assessed as most promising. The study results show that the growth factors of the retail market size, GDP per capita, population, and household final consumption expenditure create a firm basis for the growth of retail market in Vietnam until 2020.
