This paper presents the results of a research that had the objective of investigating and analyzing the factors that influence the high school graduates of the Paranhana / RS region in the professional and undergraduate courses. A total of 1,328 male and female students (55% female and 45% male), aged between 15 and 20 years old, participated in the study. Of these, 177 (13%) studied in private schools and 1,151 (87%) in schools public policies. The results showed that young people are not only concerned with the labor market, but also with personal fulfillment. In the literature, several studies state that the adolescent suffers from the feeling of indecision and that the family has the greatest influence on the young person’s choices. However, research has shown that most of the students surveyed have already made the professional choice and the family is not a deciding factor, but rather the personal achievement.
