Russia and the West in Mikhail Shishkin’s collection of stories Coat with a Belt on its Back The works in M. Shishkin’s collection of stories Coat with a Belt on its Back highlights the opposition of Russia vs. the West. In the texts, its varieties emerge in the images of Russians and Westerners, with their contrasting mentality, in counterpoising the legal norms and people’s attitude towards the law in the West and in Russia, in showing the mutual attraction and repulsion of the Russian and the European culture, particularly, in literature of the past few centuries. The article analyzes the specifics of their presentation both in this collection, and in Russian Switzerland by same M. Shishkin.
