Ethnobotanical survey of medicinal plants in Catuné, municipality of Tombos, MG
Abstract
The use of medicinal plants is guided by knowledge gained through the direct relationship with the environment. The aim of this study is to describe the local knowledge of the population in the district of Catuné, municipality of Tombos, MG, in regards to plants used in traditional medicine, and identify if such knowledge is passed on to new generations. Forty (40) interviews were conducted with local residents. Twenty-nine respondents (72%) use plant resources as herbal medicines. Of these, 11 (38%) were over 60 years old. Local knowledge of medicinal plants is not used by younger generations
