The research objective was to investigate the meanings that 5th grade students from a public school in Ribeirão Preto, state of São Paulo, give to the textual production that enables polysemy, creativity and authorship. Conversation circles were held with the students to know their relationships with written textual production and with the school. Pêcheux’s Discourse Analysis guided the data analysis through concepts such as subjectivity, discourse, ideology, discursive memory and authorship. The results point out that the discourses produced by the students about writing often rely on dominant social discourses; when they rely on their own subjectivities, they become closer to polysemy and creativity.
