La cuestión militar en la revista 'España'
Abstract
En este artículo analizamos la visión que del ejército español tienen los que, a comienzos del siglo XX, escribían en la revista "España". Esta publicación, redactada por importantes intelectuales españoles, se ha convertido en una valiosa fuente para el estudio de la descomposición del sistema canovista de la Restauración. Este estudio se divide en: los aspectos relativos a la propia organización del ejército; las opiniones aparecidas sobre el conflicto hispano marroquí; las competencias que los gobiernos de la Restauración otorgaron al ejército en materia de orden público, alejándolo de sus naturales funciones de defensa externa del país; las Juntas de Defensa que aparecen en 1917 y que provocan diferentes reacciones en la intelectualidad de la época; y, finalmente, analizaremos las opiniones sobre la creciente tendencia autoritaria en los miembros de la institución armada, es decir, la ideología que va extendiéndose en estos años en el ejército y que tanta trascendencia tendrá en el posterior desarrollo político y social de la nación. Cada uno de estos aspectos tendrá un doble análisis: la situación real que relativa a estas cuestiones se vive en la época; y las reacciones provocadas por cada uno de estos aspectos en los colaboradores de la revista.___________________ABSTRACT:This article analyses the view of the authors in the famous magazine España of the Spanish army in the early decades of the 20th century. The inclusion of the opinions of Spanish intellectuals made the magazine España an important source for the study of the break-down of the political system during the Restauración period. This article studies: the views that the authors have about the functioning of the army; the views about the army’s actions in the conflict between Spain and Morocco; the functions given to the army during canovista system in matters of public order and making the army loose some of its other foreign defence functions; the Committees of Defence that appeared in Spain in 1917 that confronted the opinions of the intellectuals; and, finally, we will analyse their opinions on the authoritarian position the army was heading in at that time, which means the ideology of this socio-profesional group that had a big importance in the political and social development of the nations. We will undertake two analyses of each of these aspects: the real situation at the time; and the opinion on each aspect from the magazine España.
