Determinants of productivity: an analysis of the workers of the Brazilian capital in 2015
Abstract
The objective of the study is to estimate the determinants of productivity of workers in the capitals of the Brazilian states for the year 2015. To achieve the objective, a Mincerian income equation was used. Although 2015 is a year with economic and political instability, the main variables with a positive influence on the increase in workers' productivity are variables with some relation to human capital. This result reinforces the need to maintain and expand public policies and spending in the area, but it also leads us to some questions about the deficiencies that still exist. As workers increase the number of years of study, their income increases even more. The greatest increase in income can be seen when workers have graduate degrees. As a differential, the study included proxies for access to education and quality, both of which had a positive influence on the determination of workers' wages. The signs of the coefficients indicate that workers face tradeoffs and are compensated with higher wages due to reductions in local amenities. Finally, it was possible to verify that there is a wage differential for men and for non-blacks
