Circulación del conocimiento sobre Canarias a la luz de cuatro tesis doctorales alemanas (1869-1894)

Abstract

The analysis of four PhD theses about the Canary Islands presented in the last third of the 19th century in Germany shows how scientific knowledge about the Archipelago circulated. Among the reasons for that circulation, we would underline the unusual mobility of both professors and students among German Universities together with the marked interest of German scholars and scientists in carrying out research on the Islands in situ. These two facts led to the creation of communication and exchange networks, which also included Canary scholars.
