It is known that among patients with acute myocardial infarction there are humoral alterations as the reduction of serum magnesium that causes different complications.76 patients were studied. 40 of them who were apparently sound were used as a control group and 36 with diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction (AMI). The concentration of magnesium in blood was determined in both groups and significant differences were found between them. The values of magnesium obtained were related to age, sex and risk factors. Differences were observed between the age groups and the risk factors. Patients were treated with magnesium sulfate. Their evolution was assessed later and good results were attained in most of the cases.
