Abstract

This text traces the progress of half a century of research, mainly devoted to the periurban areas of the Paris region. It looks at the development of the research subject, the evolution of themes and methods, and the shifts in the scientific approach as a result of academic encounters, field experience and the changing way in which periurban areas are viewed by their inhabitants.
