Memoria ed eredità del quarantotto milanese dalle Cinque giornate a fine secolo

Abstract

1848 in Milan occupy a prominent place in the historiographical debate on the two revolutionary years in Italy (1848-1849). Not only the exceptional nature of the most famous and most celebrated event (the Five Days of Milan insurrection that led the General Radetzky to flee from the town in March 1848), but also the course of the political struggle during the months following the Piedmontese response and the capitulation of Milan (August), represented a turning point in debates after the events. The article presents the conflicting memory of the 1848 Revolution in Milan by identifying – through the analysis of texts – some key moments (the two years from 1848 to 1849, the eighties and the crisis at the end of the century) during which were examined all main thematic nodes which occupy the historiography of the twentieth century.
