Case Studies in Chemical and Environmental Engineering (Dec 2023)
An experimental investigation of the solar distiller basin's performance using a flat mirror and vertical barriers
Abstract
The study presents a solar-based system for long-term energy and freshwater supply, combining power generation with a water production sub-cycle. The system achieves maximum values for freshwater production rate, water temperature, and glass temperature, which are inversely related to aquarium water heat capacity. A one-sided solar distiller was compared to another with six parallel columns and a plane mirror, achieving maximum efficiency of 49.14% and 18.91%, respectively. The goal is to find the best design for higher productivity of clean fresh water in a shorter time and use recycled materials in the distillation system.
