Combined procedure for the treatment of complicated chronic ankle instability with associated complete rupture of peroneal tendons

Abstract

Chronic ankle instability is a well-known pathology that is frequently encountered by orthopedic surgeons, especially in young athletes. It becomes more challenging and complicated when conjoint with both peroneal tendons rupture. The treatment strategy for chronic ankle instability accompanying complete rupture of both peroneal tendons is not yet clearly described in the literature due to the rarity of these compounded pathologies. In this report, we present a detailed description of a combined procedure for surgical stabilization of an ankle with chronic instability, with concomitant peroneal tendons rupture, by reconstructing the anterior talofibular ligament, calcaneofibular ligament, and Peroneus brevis using tendon allografts.
