From correspondence of Olena Apanovych with Yaroslav Isayevych: to problem of history of science (to 105th anniversary of birth of famous Ukrainian historian)
Abstract
The purpose of the work is to involve in the wide scientific and cultural circulation of documents related to the figure of the Ukrainian historian, archivist and public figure Olena Apanovych, which are kept in the fonds of the Institute of Manuscript of the V.I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine. Methodology. The research is based on the principles of historicism, scientificity, objectivity, as well as on general historical methods - chronological, retrospective, thematic, which were used in this work to characterize the source array, its comprehensive study by the method of bibliographic and source-scientific analysis and synthesis, classification and systematization documents based on specific species-thematic features. Scientific novelty. The archival heritage of Olena Apanovych is analyzed, in particular, the large epistolary of the scientist, as an important source of information about her life and creative path, worldview and scientific relationships. The correspondence of Olena Apanovych with Yaroslav Isayevych, a famous Ukrainian historian, public figure, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, director of the I. Krypyakevych Institute of Ukrainian Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, which presents new information about the scientist’s scientific and social activities, is represented. Conclusions. Olena Apanovych is one of the Ukrainian scientists, who contributed to the establishment and formation of historical science and special historical disciplines in the 20th century through her scientific activities. The scientist left a great scientific legacy, and her name is known to a wide readership, first of all, as the author of numerous scientific and popular science works on the history of the Ukrainian Cossacks. The scientist’s creative output includes more than 400 publications of a diverse nature, in particular, individual and collective monographs and popular science books, articles in thematic and periodicals, reviews and speeches at conferences, speeches in TV and radio programs, a large part of which is kept in her personal fond. However, the large epistolary of the scientist remains outside the attention of researchers. Almost two thousand letters from both Apanovych, the correspondent, and Apanovych, the addressee are kept in the Institute of Manuscript of the V.I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine.
