The objective of the study was to compare the findings obtained during investigation of women with physiological and risk pregnancy. The study enrolled 52 pregnant women at the age of 23 to 40 years. The cohort included 25 women with physiological and 27 women with risk pregnancy due to gestational and pregestational diabetes mellitus. In addition to anamnestic data we have always determined the DMF index, CPITN index (Community Periodontal Index of Treatment Needs) and PBI (Papilla Bleeding Index). Moreover, we have always determined the numbers of Streptoccous mutans bacteria in saliva and in the tooth plaque. The results obtained were statistically analyzed using the two-tail hypothesis and χ2 test of independence. Statistically significant difference between the groups with physiological and that of risk pregnancy was found in the PBI index values. The women with risk pregnancy suffered from more serious inflammatory defect of gingiva which became manifest in increased gingiva bleeding.
