A citizens’ requisition (or squat) in the centre of Avignon offers young people and families who have been taken in (and rejected from regulated spaces) comprehensive support (accommodation, health, legal, etc.), including follow-up in the area of educational and/or professional projects. It gives young exiles excluded from institutional protection access to institutional education. The aim of this article is to highlight the voluntary approach to academic and literary support within this extra-institutional reception area. In particular, it looks at the day-to-day work of the thirty or so volunteers who provide support, often on an individual basis, but also at the network of partnerships forged with the local institutions responsible for this issue. It was through a broader action-research project with the Rosmerta collective that this expertise on the part of non-professional education players came to our attention.
